Europe is a continent with approximately 50 countries, traditionally divided into four regions: Northern, Southern, Eastern, and Western Europe. It is a major economic and political hub, home to the European Union, and features diverse geography, cultures, and histories. Key examples include Russia and Ukraine being the largest countries by area, Germany being highly populous and economically significant, and France being noted for its cultural and educational influence. Europe is often called a "peninsula of peninsulas," bordered by the Arctic Ocean to the north, the Atlantic Ocean to the west, and the Mediterranean, Black, and Caspian seas to the south. The continent is generally divided into four regions: Northern, Southern, Eastern, and Western Europe. France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom are considered major European powers and they are the Western European countries individually represented as full members of the G7 and the G20. They have been referred to as the "Big Four of Europe" since the interwar period. Europe tours offer diverse experiences, ranging from classic Western European capitals like Paris and Rome to scenic adventures in the Swiss Alps and Mediterranean coastlines. Tours typically include a mix of cultural sites, scenic landscapes, and transportation between cities, with options for different durations and budgets, from short 7-day trips to longer 13-day itineraries. Key considerations for planning include the time of year, which affects crowds and prices, and the specific cities and attractions you wish to see. Popular starting points include London, Paris, and Rome, with other frequently visited locations such as Amsterdam, Frankfurt, and Lucerne.
